How do I know if my Water Heater needs to be replaced?

If you see any of the following problems with your system, be sure to give Drain Surgeon a call for service.  While many of these issues may be repairable, if problems persist, it might be time to replace your system.

  • Check the age of your system. If the sticker on your current unit is more than 10 years old it might be time to consider a water heater replacement.

  • If you have less hot water than usual it might be due to sediment build-up in your system. Over time sediment builds in the unit and serves as a separation between the heat source and the water. This will result in your current water temperature being less than the ideal temperature and will result in less energy efficiency overall. text goes here

  • It’s perfectly normal if your water heater makes a little noise, but if you hear loud banging, popping, or cracking sounds, it could be sediment which has hardened over time.

  • Visible pipe fractures or leaks on your utility closet floor is a tell-tale sign something is wrong.  Pipe sweating is due to humid conditions in your home. If you are not sure what the source of leak is, be sure to call a technician in.

  • If your water is coming out brown or discolored, schedule a water heater inspection right away to protect your faucet, fixtures, and your health. This is often an indication of tank corrosion and can often be resolved by flushing the tank; however, it could mean it is time for water heater replacement.

Drain Surgeon believes that the best protection against premature failure is good preventive maintenance.
